A Cathedral Tuned to the Solstice

Twice a year, around 2 February and 11 November, the sun through Palma Cathedral's east rose window projects a circle of light directly beneath the west window, briefly making the two align. The effect draws crowds at dawn.

The clock: Palma keeps UTC+1 on Mallorca, and handles one of the busiest seasonal airports in Europe — its passenger traffic in August is several times its January figure.
