A Capital Designed on Paper

Islamabad was laid out from 1960 by the Greek planner Constantinos Doxiadis on a strict grid of numbered sectors, each intended to be self-sufficient. Pakistan moved its capital here from Karachi because it wanted somewhere more central and more defensible.

The clock: Pakistan keeps UTC+5 with no seasonal change, having briefly tried daylight saving in 2002 and 2008–09 and abandoned it both times.
