Did You Know?

Once the Biggest Coal Port on Earth

In 1913 Cardiff exported roughly 10.7 million tonnes of coal, more than any other port in the world. The Coal Exchange here is said to have hosted the first ever million-pound deal. Within fifty years the trade was essentially finished.

The clock: Cardiff runs on GMT and BST. Lying further west than London, its sunsets come about fifteen minutes later on the same clock — a small dividend of sharing a time zone with a country to your east.
