Did You Know?

The Last Divided Capital

Nicosia has been split by a buffer zone since 1974, making it the only divided capital city left in the world. The Green Line runs through the middle of the old town; in places the two sides are a few metres apart.

The clock: the two halves have not always agreed on the hour. In 2016 the north briefly stayed on summer time year-round while the south changed, putting a one-hour gap across a street for several months.
