Where Celsius Set the Scale

Anders Celsius proposed his temperature scale in Uppsala in 1742 — originally with 0 as the boiling point and 100 as freezing, the reverse of today's. It was inverted after his death. Linnaeus also worked here, devising the naming system biology still uses.

The clock: Uppsala keeps UTC+1. Its cathedral, at 118.7 metres, is the tallest church in Scandinavia.
