A Sand Spit Nearly a Hundred Kilometres Long

The Curonian Spit runs about 98 kilometres and is in places only 400 metres wide, separating a lagoon from the Baltic. Its dunes had to be replanted from the 19th century after deforestation set them moving onto villages.
