San Diego and Tijuana together form a metropolitan region of roughly five million people split by an international border, and the San Ysidro crossing between them handles tens of millions of northbound crossings a year — among the busiest land border crossings in the world.
The city's climate is famously stable: average highs vary by barely 8°C between January and August.
The clock: San Diego keeps Pacific Time at UTC−8, and shares it with Tijuana — one of the few places where two countries keep the same clock by design: when Mexico dropped daylight saving in 2022, it kept it along the US border, because the alternative was unworkable for commuters.
