The World's Busiest Runway Queue
Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta has been the busiest airport on Earth in passenger numbers in most years since 1998, moving well over 100 million people in a strong year. It manages that on five runways and a single terminal complex, largely because of geography: roughly 80% of the United States population is within a two-hour flight.
Atlanta is not where most of those people want to go. It is where they change planes.
The clock: at UTC−5 in winter and UTC−4 in summer, Atlanta sits in the Eastern zone with New York — but some 1,200 km further south and west, which is why its sunsets run noticeably later than Manhattan's at the same clock time.
