A City That Uncovered Its Rivers

Providence had paved over its rivers with what was once the widest bridge in the world, about 350 metres across. In the 1980s and 90s the city moved the rivers and removed the deck, uncovering waterfront it had lost for a century.

The clock: Providence keeps Eastern Time. WaterFire lights around a hundred braziers in the river on summer evenings, timed to start at sunset.
