Seven Million Motorbikes
Ho Chi Minh City has roughly seven to eight million registered motorbikes for nearly ten million residents within its old limits (a 2025 merger took the city past 14 million) — close to one per person, including the people too young to ride one. At rush hour the effect is less like traffic and more like a river.
The city's Bến Thành market and the tunnels at Củ Chi sit within an hour of each other, which is a reasonable summary of its last century.
The clock: Vietnam keeps a single offset, UTC+7. The country ran on several competing clocks during the war years; reunification in 1975 settled it.
