A Bridge That Tore Itself Apart

The original Tacoma Narrows Bridge collapsed on 7 November 1940, four months after opening, twisting apart in a 65 km/h wind. The film of it is shown in engineering courses worldwide as a lesson in aeroelastic flutter.
