Cable Cars as Public Transit

Medellín opened the Metrocable in 2004, the first gondola system anywhere built as ordinary mass transit rather than tourism, connecting steep hillside neighbourhoods to the metro below. The model has since been copied across Latin America.

The clock: Medellín keeps UTC−5 at about 1,500 metres, where the temperature barely moves all year — hence its nickname, the city of eternal spring.
