A Trumpet Call That Stops Mid-Note

The hejnał has been played from St Mary's tower in Kraków every hour, on the hour, for centuries, and it always breaks off abruptly. The story is that a 13th-century trumpeter was shot through the throat mid-warning during a Mongol raid. The interruption is now played deliberately, every hour, forever.

The clock: Kraków keeps UTC+1, and its hourly trumpet is broadcast live on Polish national radio at noon — one of the few time signals anywhere played by a human being.
