Did You Know?
Gregor Mendel grew roughly 28,000 pea plants in the garden of his Brno abbey between 1856 and 1863, and worked out the laws of inheritance. His paper was published in 1866 and essentially ignored for 34 years.
The clock: Brno's astronomical clock in Náměstí Svobody ejects a glass marble at 11:00 each day, commemorating a 1645 siege — the design is widely considered incomprehensible.
