A Harbour Inside a Volcano

Aden's port sits in the crater of an extinct volcano, which is why its natural harbour is so unusually sheltered. The Cisterns of Tawila above it, cut into the rock, could hold millions of litres of rainwater.

The clock: Aden keeps UTC+3. It was one of the busiest bunkering ports in the world after the Suez Canal opened in 1869.
