The Gateway Arch is 192 metres tall and 192 metres wide at the base — a weighted catenary curve, completed in 1965. Its two legs were built separately and had to meet within about a millimetre; crews sprayed the south leg with water to keep thermal expansion in check.
The clock: St. Louis keeps Central Time and marks the point where westward expansion was organised — the Lewis and Clark expedition set out from here in 1804.
