Where the Day Begins

Tonga has long marketed itself as the place where the day begins, sitting just west of the date line at UTC+13. It is also the only Pacific island nation never formally colonised.

The clock: Tonga experimented with daylight saving to reach UTC+14 in summer, which would have made it the earliest clock on Earth. It abandoned the practice in 2017.
